Some of the cases investigated by OPCC in 2013:

In one of the firings, a New Westminster officer was caught with cocaine, ingesting cocaine, hanging out with a cocaine dealer and owing the dealer money for drugs.

He was fired.

Also in the Royal City, an officer used police databases for unauthorized searches unrelated to his duties. He then shared that information with someone he shouldn’t have.

He was fired.

In Abbotsford, an off-duty officer caused an accident while driving his unmarked police vehicle, which was damaged in the crash.

He subsequently lied to investigators about the circumstances of the crash, was given a 10-day suspension without pay, and then dismissed from the force.

In Vancouver, an officer was fired for conducting database searches for personal reasons and being in a relationship with someone he knew was associated with criminals.

Oh, yeah — and having sex with a prostitute, on-duty and off.

A Victoria policeman touched another officer with a sex toy he’d found during a search of a residence. He got suspended for four days without pay and was ordered to undergo psychological counselling.

Also in Victoria, a policeman used his department email address to transmit an image of a nude male. He was ordered to take alcohol and psychological counselling and was susended eight days without pay.

A New West cop drove his vehicle into a rock. It was the officer’s sixth “motor-vehicle incident” in six years, the fourth in which the officer was found to be at fault. The cop was assigned to a one-day driver assessment and training session.

A drunk off-duty officer from another jurisdiction also started a “non-consensual” fight in New West, was arrested for being intoxicated in public and, while being held in a cell, assaulted one of the arresting officers.

He was suspended five days without pay and was demoted a rank, but he resigned while the investigation was ongoing.

A member of the Transit Police received a written reprimand after he asked that a photo be taken of him with a “severely intoxicated male” for purposes unrelated to his duties.

And, just so you know cops can’t just flash their badges and get off scot-free at roadside checks — at least not all the time — two officers received one-day suspensions for off-duty drunk-driving offences.

In one of the cases, a Vancouver police officer told the Mountie who had pulled him over on suspicion of impaired driving that he was also a cop “in order to receive favourable treatment,” the report said.
