Federal Government Claims People Growing Their Own Medical Marijuana Is A “Threat To Public Safety”

As of April 1 2014, the Canadian MMAR (Medical Marijuana Access Regulations) will be completely overhauled and transformed into a whole new program called the MMPR. Currently individuals can obtain a medical marijuana growing license and supply medical marijuana patients their medicine at a very cost effective rate. After April 1, only government approved corporate growers will be licensed and will provide the medication through a mail order system.

This move has the medical marijuana patients very upset for a variety of reasons. Below is a video report by pressfortruth.ca that includes several patients explaining the problems in the change.

And when I interviewed Dan on the subject, he explain more changes to the MMAR.

The governments reasoning for this overhaul is down right absurd!

calgaryherald.com: Medical marijuana program ‘seriously compromised’ by rapid growth: federal government

“The unforeseen growth of the federal medical marijuana program has “seriously compromised” the goal of providing the drug to patients while ensuring public safety, the Canadian government says.

The number of people authorized to possess — and often grow — marijuana under the federal program has risen to 37,000 this year from fewer than 100 in 2001, resulting in “significant unintended consequences.”

In a court document defending imminent changes to the program, the government says growing marijuana at home poses hazards including mould, fire, toxic chemicals and the threat of home invasion by criminals.

It says the number of licensed users could climb as high as 400,000, adding it is not possible for Health Canada to effectively inspect tens of thousands of production sites across the country.”

Toxic chemicals involved in growing a plant in your home? Dangers of mould and fires? Lets be realistic here. Nearly every Canadian household has more than a dozen toxic chemicals in them, bleach, oven cleaners, draino, the list could go on forever. The same goes for the risk of developing mold or the risk of fires. A candle is a fire hazard.

Then there is in my opinion the most asinine example of the governments defense of the changes. The threat of home invasion by criminals. Do you have expensive jewelry? A nice computer set up? How about a nice entertainment system? Have you lost all trust in banks, so you keep your money in a home safe? These are all way more likely to create a risk of a home invasion, than having a few pot plants.

Do these reasons sound sane enough to take life saving medication away from people or make it too expensive for them to afford?

If it does not, you can help stop this criminal activity by the Canadian government. Please contact mmarcoalitionagainstrepeal.com to learn how to get involved.

  3. The threat to the government isn’t the issue of mom and pop lets grow our medical weed in the back yard. Or dispensaries in every corner like convenience stores.

Rather, the real issue is government containment similar to the booze laws. You can’t tax underground growers, and you can’t control the flow of the goods.

  4. All Medical MJ will be irradiated, even though there have been no tests on the effects of irradiation. If any one reads this, DO NOT SMOKE IRRADIATED MEDICAL MARIJUANA!

I have friends who grow orchids, he has a hundred. No problem with mold at his place? If safety is a concern we should ban all houseplants.
