Is The Canadian Government Helping Build A Ukrainian Neo Nazi Government?
The Ukrainian drama continues as the leaders of Crimea and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a treaty claiming the region as part of Russia.
These actions have taken place without military violence until yesterday. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense is reporting that two soldiers have died after a raid on a military base in the Crimean capital of Simferopol. Below is a video report by WSJ about one of the soldiers that have been killed.
At the 1:15 point in the video report, Ukrainian national guard soldiers are openly wearing the symbol for the political party called Svoboda (also a former symbol of German SS divisions as seen in the picture to the left). A well known national socialist, Neo-Nazi group. The BBC did a video report on the role of Svoboda and other Neo-Nazi groups in the Ukraine coup.
With this type of information coming out of the region, the Canadian government is standing by it’s decision to provide Ukraine with $220 million in an international aid to help the new government.
Last Thursday Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird stated “Prime Minister Stephen Harper is announcing $220 million in additional measures to promote sustainable economic growth, democratic development, and good governance”.
The bulk of the aid from Canada will be conditional on the establishment of an IMF package. (If you are unaware of what these packages from the IMF include, there is a great documentary on it called Life And Debt)
The Canadian government has also been providing the “protesters” with supplies, first-aid kits and training. Through several Ukrainian NGO’s (non governmental organizations).
Presented with these facts, all Canadians have to ask some basic questions. Has the Canadian government purposely or inadvertently been aiding Neo-Nazi groups in ousting a democratically elected government? And is it a good idea that they now providing aid to replacement government that is showing clear signs of Neo-Nazism?
