Stunning Pictures Of The Great Lakes Frozen In 2014

In the spirit of enjoying the winter season, I took my daughter down to lake Ontario. What we saw was quite amazing!

I have lived in southern Ontario for the majority of my life, and have visited the great lakes more times than I can even remember. But I have never seen them as frozen as they have been this year. In fact at times, as much as 88% of the lakes surfaces have been ice. That is the most since 1994. (photo above is from our trip, people enjoying the frozen lake)

Here are several more photo’s of what the great lakes have looked like this winter.

Here is a video report I did from lake Ontario on February 17 2014.

As I state in the video, this winter has thrown a curve ball into the theory of the planet continually heating up over the last 50 years. Many publications have stated that the cold winter is due to warming in the arctic, that has pushed the cold temperatures south. I have not seen any evidence of that statement yet, and during the summer we actually saw the opposite of that. (arctic sea ice grew by 29%).

What we can see in this environment Canada graph, is a trend. Several years with less ice coverage followed by one or two years of much higher ice coverage of the lakes. A constant fluctuation.

We often forget about the beauty that winter can bring, even though it is all around us. I say forget the main stream hype about global warming/cooling and just get out and enjoy it!

I would love a copy of the photo of St Joseph’s lighthouse. That is a beautiful photo

Some of our climate change has to do with the sun’s lack of activity. She was supposed to be in solar maximum and the solar flare and CME activity is way below where is should be. This has an affect on us with more ‘extremes’- and it is happening on other planets in our solar system as well.
