Hamilton Cop Guilty of Sexual Charges but Still Wants to Keep His Job

Sergeant Derek Mellor was caught having sex off duty with women, sexting them, and sending a woman a video of himself masturbating. Well you say to yourself “who cares, it was off duty, consensual and he was just being flirtatious.” Well yeah it was off duty and consensual, but the problem is he was flirting and having sex with women he rescued from the sex trade and family members of victims. I’m sure being a victim in the sex trade world would create some negative impacts to the victims mentality and consciousness about sex, and in my opinion, would make them more vulnerable and easier to manipulate into having sexual relations with. So in all he took advantage of them when he was supposed to help them.

“Sergeant Derek Mellor, formerly in charge of the service’s human trafficking initiative Project Rescue, pleaded guilty Monday to a slew of misconduct charges involving off-duty sex, sexting, and sending a woman a three- second video of himself masturbating. His targets were the women he came into professional contact with — witnesses, victims, a victim’s mother and even agency staff.
But Monday, after his client pleaded guilty to nine Police Services Act charges, Mellor’s lawyer said that, at sentencing, Mellor will try to hang on to being a police officer.
“He is certainly going to ask the hearing officer if he can keep his job,” lawyer Gary Clewley said. “And he’s going to ask the hearing officer to reject the submission I expect to come from the prosecution: that he be dismissed.”
Clewley said is client was “regretful” for his actions.
Mellor appeared at Monday’s hearing at Hamilton Police Services headquarters with a shaved head and wearing a dark suit. His hands knit together and his head nodded every time he answered “guilty” to the charges being read against him.
Mellor has been suspended from duty since he was charged in December 2012He faced 13 charges — he pleaded guilty to nine. Two counts of corrupt practice and breach of duty were withdrawn by the prosecutor and two counts were “adjourned sine die,” meaning they are suspended but can be reactivated in the future.
The hearing was told that, on at least two occasions, women complained to Mellor’s colleague in Project Rescue, Detective Constable David Hartless, and Hartless reacted, not by reporting Mellor, but by promising to speak to him. In each case, those conversations put an end to the sexting, but it continued unabated with other victims.”

Gary Clewley has a huge track record of defending police officers who have done wrongdoings and does a good job at helping them clear charges and assists them in helping them keep their jobs.

Atleast in the “trade” they were paid.
I can’t help but wonder where this would go if Mellor were a civilian and not a policeman. Any thoughts? Anyone?
