Bill C-23 Fair Elections Act Will Suppress Some Canadians from Voting
Bill C-23 will make amendments to the Criminal Code and make it harder for Canadians to get pardons (erase criminal record for money) but this bill has other things that come along with it, like the Fair Elections Act.
The Fair Elections Act, which is being implemented by the Conservative government, will make it harder for Canadians to vote. This piece of legislation makes it so the only way a Canadian can vote is to have some type of identification. lt allows up to 39 types of ID with one medicare card, or a bank statement and a phone bill. The legislation would simply get rid of the practice where one voter can vouch for another one’s identity.
One of the lawyers who helped strike down the voter ID law in the United States in the state of Pennsylvania says legislation tabled by the Harper government will inevitably wind up depriving some people of their voting rights.
“A big part of this bill is about voter suppression,” NDP deputy leader David Christopherson told The Huffington Post Canada.
Young people, aboriginals and low-income Canadians are being unfairly targeted by a bill that the Conservatives have labelled the Fair Elections Act, the NDP argued.”

They say this bill is being introduced to decrease voting fraud.
NDP Leader Tom Mulcair suggests that this bill could also be proposed by the Harper government to cover up the robocall scandal in 2011 and says that the bill itself can be considered illegal.
Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, in a speech she made at the House of Commons says that this bill is unconstitutional because under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms everyone has the right to vote. She also raises an important question, where is the evidence that there is voter fraud even happening?
Although I feel like most of the mainstream political parties all have similar interests with slightly different ideologies, voting is an important thing when one lives in a democratic society and if one is deferred from voting because they do not have the right piece of ID is in indeed an infringement of Constitutional rights.

obviously they are trying to create a situation where it looks like they are trying to prevent what they are planning to do more of..
they will probably fix up voting fraud to help JT win now, and will act like they tried to prevent it.. and once he’s in.. it’s like obama.. things will change quickly in the direction they want..
‘more foreignerss stealing jobs, causing lower wages, less jobs available, more depression.. more helplessness.. more people drinking away their problems.. more brains forgetting the crimes they have committed, and over time all their mistakes disappear, and the next idiot in line is free to do the same thing all over again, cause the previous ones who were the suckers last time forget exactly how it happened and can’t explain it.. OR are too scared that they will ruin the person’s life they are telling - so they choose not to.. and just sit back and watch the walls come tumbling down to reveal the cage that has always been there - waiting in the darkest realms of denial and delusion, and it is literally the second that you run into the cage face first that you wake up to the reality that surrounds.
My thoughts on this area is that why was some sort of identification not used long ago if the Conservative government thinks that this is so important? Like why now? Yes I side with the Green party leader about voter fraud taking place.Show us the proof. This is a fundamental right in a democracy to vote, yet now we need proof of who we are before we vote.Again I ask why is this important now to show indentification, but years ago this wasn’t asked of a voter?
Governments are good at making criminals. All you have to do is pass more laws. As far as voting goes, does it really matter in our current 2 wolves and a sheep deciding what’s for dinner, “Democracy”.
