Metrolinx Wind Turbine Only Producing 9% Of Projected Energy
Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal government has fully committed the province of Ontario to wind energy production. We have written several times about the wind programs and the closures of coal power plants. In fact by the end of 2014, Ontario will be the first province or state in North America to totally ban coal power.
One of the big concerns surrounding wind power is the question of if it can produce enough power to replace coal and here is a perfect example of why that question is being raised.
thestar.com: GO Transit wind turbine producing 91% less power than expected
A wind turbine pilot project at a GO station in Mississauga, built for $620,000, is producing 91 per cent less electricity than originally projected.
The turbine, unveiled at Lisgar GO station in April 2009, was expected to produce 98,550 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year — enough to power 80 per cent of the station’s electricity needs.
More than four years later, it is only producing around 9,000 kWh per year, or about 9 per cent of projections.
That’s enough electricity to power a single typical household in Toronto for nine months.
Metrolinx blamed “inconsistent localized wind levels” and new development in the area for the turbine’s underperformance. A spokeswoman still called it a “marginal success.”

A provincially run company (Metrolinx) is showing how ineffective wind power is. Yet the Wynne government is not even blinking an eye, they continue to state that wind power is Ontario’s future.
If provincial wind turbines are only producing 9% of projected energy levels. It is not a very bright future!

I wonder what type of wind turbines these are? The only ones i ever see in news reports are pictures of the ones that look like windmills but there are many other designs…. is this the only model being used by the power companies? The windmill one? What about the other types?
i have also read articles explaining that these generators make people sick. This is a serious issue, which is also being ignored by mainstream media… one, the widn generators don’t work as well as we thought they would and two, they make people sick… oh, and they ALSO kill birds, sometimes cutting them in half…. if they DON’T work and they make people sick and kill wildlife, stop using them! They must be either redesigned to be safe and efficient or scrapped!
Yes I quite agree why is no one bothering to even mention this problem. I hear none of the mainstream media talking about this topic. As well, from reading the article I get the impression that the Ontario government did not even conduct a test period to find out if it was feasible in the first place before putting up a wind turbine.A waste of money as far as I see it.
