Mass Shooting Drill At Sheridan College

On November 25 2013, Sheridan College and Halton Regional Police Services teamed up to hold a mock lockdown involving blood, fake guns and wounded students.

The drill involved two shooters (played by Halton police officers) who pretended to go on a shooting spree in the Oakville campus. Theatre students used special effect make up to simulate blood, gun shots, and playing dead/injured victims. Police entered the school conducting a “sweep” and then the “take down” of the shooters. Below is some footage from the drill.

Before the drill, the school gave student journalists from the schools newspaper, the Sheridan Sun. Permission to report on the on the drill. But afterwards the school had a change of heart. After seeing the footage and photo’s the schools officials felt that the images could be “disturbing” to residents, parent, and students alike. Which could negatively affect the college’s image.

The Sheridan Sun’s coverage of the lockdown drill was ordered removed from their site by the Sheridan College administration.

Here are some of the photo’s that they did not want being seen.

Going beyond the stifling of young journalists, I have one question.

Why is a large college in Canada conducting these drills in the first place? Yes some pretty horrific school shootings have happened in the United States. But when has one happened in Canada?

There has been one. The Dawson College shooting in Quebec, in 2006. Where one victim died and the shooter committing suicide. I am not saying that school shooting are not possible. Or that emergency crews should not be ready. But in a nations that has only had one large scale school shooting, why do we need to be putting students through such events?

It is something called fear based mind control. It is the same tactic that is used when keeping people scared of terrorism. Drills and events like this one keep students scared of the possibility that it could happen. Which allows authorities to push more Orwellian surveillance, invasions of privacy, and a larger police presence.

While the chances of Canadian students being caught in a school shooting scenario or even dying in one are astronomical! These students are more likely to be hit by lightening, die from food poisoning, etc.

We as Canadians should be outraged at these types of activities by the state and the education system. As a father all I can say is this. The first time one of my daughters schools (at any levels) conducts anything like this. That will be the last day that she attends.

  1. the police trying to justify their jobs…when in reality they drive around with radar guns and ticket pads to fatten the political pockets at our additional expense

Waste of resources, and who ultimately pays for that — why the tax payers and the students of course. Terror training for the students, so that they can be terrified of a non-existent threat. If I was a student there I’d transfer the hell out so I wouldn’t be funding such bureaucratic lunacy!
