City Of Hamilton Decides Not To Hold Fluoride Referendum
The debate about water fluoridation has been a long running theme at Hamilton city hall. I became active on the issue when I moved to the city in 2011. In the time since then we have handed in a petition with over 1200 signatures that states: Remove hydrofluorosilicic acid from our water supply.
A variety of professionals presented to city council in April 2012. Including Dr. Paul Connett of the Fluoride Action Network.
As a result of the presentations and the petition, city council decided to ask Health Canada for more information about the chemical being used to fluoride the water (hydrofluorosilicic acid). Nearly two years later. Health Canada has not only, not provided this information. They have not even responded to the request.
In response to Health Canada not responding, city councilor Brad Clark filled a motion for a referendum on the issue. Which eventually lead to the council meeting on December 4 2013, where the idea of the referendum was debated.
As soon as we found out about the meeting, Frank signed up as a delegation to speak at the meeting. His request was quickly denied. The city clerk stated that the only thing that was going to be spoke about was the legal issues surrounding the referendum.
A few days later a friend of ours, who is very passionate about the issue. Also signed up to speak. The clerk called her and told her that she could not speak either. She did not take no for an answer and argued with the clerk for a half hour. (In the conversation the clerk also stated “I know where you are getting your information and they do not know what they are talking about” Hmm I guess we don’t know what we are talking about now?) She ended up being able to speak at the meeting.
At the December 4th meeting. There where four speakers. Two political scientists, a dentist, and our friend Sarah. I am still working on getting a lot of the footage of the meeting published but here is one of the political scientists Simon Kiss, making his presentation.
Yes, that is right. All of us little people might think for ourselves, and heaven forbid. Make our own health decisions. we are all to stupid to do that and need political scientists to make those decisions for us.
City councilor Brad Clark called Simon out on his thinking, for exactly what it was/is. Elitist! Simon’s presentation is a direct slap in the face of the people in our city. But sadly the majority of city councilors did not see it that way.
They made comments like these “We need to trust our public health officials”, “this is not a big issue”, “I find it interesting that there is three people here speaking to promote it and only one against it (remember the city clerk was refusing requests of people to speak)” and “A referendum could be too complicated for people”. They made these comments even after Sarah presented stating that fluoridation is a direct violation of our charter of rights and freedoms.
By the end of it, council decided to ask for a feasibility study to be done, with the possibility of a citizen jury on the issue in the future. No deadlines for these options (meaning they can drag it out as long as they want).
Then the main stream media began to do their jobs. CHCH news did this piece titled: Debate over Hamilton fluoride. (important to note the camera man walked by us stating “there isn’t no chemtrails in here” and the reporter sat in front of us rolling her eyes as Sarah presented.) If the embedded video below does not appear for you, watch the video at: chch.com
Anyone who knows about the issue will be able to spot so many inaccuracies in the report, that it is actually quite sad.
Then Graeme MacKay - editorial cartoonist for the Hamilton Spectator then posted this photo on social media.
Apparently wanting our rights requires a tin foil hat?
I can only speak for myself, but all of this ignoring of information, elitist nerds who think they know better than everyone, and slander in the main stream only encourages me to strap that tin foil hat on and go twice as hard. They don’t think fluoride is a big issue for the people. Well who is with me in changing that perception?

I think a lot of people who if they had more time to do some research would find out that the mainstream media does not bother talking about such subjects as fluoride in our drinking water. The corporate world is interested in profits not health.Secondly, the education system is again run by the corporate world and it is they who are telling you what to think, how to act, behave, etc.A lot of people should ask questions instead of blindly accepting things as if it is always been that way than there is nothing you can do about it.
In my opinion, this is an ad hominem attack used by unintellectual people such as yourself… I suggest you look up the word… Don’t attack the character, attack the information being presented. Grammar errors or not, it is the information that is important and if you are unable to take in information because of simple grammar errors then obviously you have some problems yourself
I agree the fluoride is bad for our health and against our rights. I believe one of the side effects is the ability to keep people from making good and right decisions. I think to many people are drinking the water and just ho hum back to sleep.
There are bigger problems than fluoride. For example: literacy.
The writer of this article makes far too frequent spelling and grammar errors. This makes me more likely to believe they are a teenager still coming to terms with the proper use of punctuation and appropriate use of synonyms like “To” vs “Too”.
I was unable to accept that someone so casually unable to communicate with typed words (even with the onset of spell and grammar correcting tools in basic word processing) would be an authority on this particular topic.
We have bigger problems than fluoridation… but that’s for another discussion .. [if you have ears to hear]
