Forget all of the rhetoric, Canada is doing just fine. According to a new Fraser Institute report Canada is now ranked 5th in the world for Economic freedom! An increase of one spot in the last year.
According to nationalpost.com
“And as the size of Canada’s government continues to slightly shrink due to slowed growth in government spending post-recession and America’s continues to expand, this indicator could eventually make us the industrialized world’s new leader on economic freedom, said Fraser Institute president Niels Veldhuis.”
Could we really be number 1? Well lets look at some of the criteria that is considered to make this list. Smaller government, legal system and record on property rights, “sound money” or financial growth, freedom to trade internationally and levels of regulation. among many more.
And what have we done to reach this great achievement, and give the possibility of being ranked number 1?
Having a national debt of nearly 600 billion (and still climbing), having the largest percentage of personal debt in the western world (people on average owe 153% of their earnings), experiencing large amounts of austerity, free trade agreements being negotiated in total secrecy, Canadians being threatened by city officials for growing gardens in their front yards, and others having their homes searched because they grew cucumbers in their basement.
If this is what a rising nation of economic freedom looks like. That is a sad state of affairs for the whole world!
Or maybe all we have to do is read further down in the above national post article. To where it states “Canada’s rankings rose because other nations fared worse”. Could it be? The main stream media in Canada, twisting a story to make it look like everything is OK?
In reality Canadian society has not improved at all. It has gotten worse, just not as quickly as most other nations in the world. This is nothing to be proud of and our main stream media should be ashamed of they’re reporting!
