An information bomb exploded in the dark underbelly of the US Food and Drug Administration in recent weeks, as one courageous former FDA drug reviewer blew the whistle on mafia-like corruption at the highest levels of the agency, describing widespread racketeering, witness tampering and retaliation, and more.
Speaking with Truthout.org’s Martha Rosenberg[i], scientist Ronald Kavanaugh recounted a chilling story of the deliberate skewing of research material and information designed to ensure the marketing approvals of dangerous drugs like Vioxx, Avandia, Zyprexa, and many more. “”One [FDA] manager threatened my children…I was afraid that I could be killed for talking to Congress and criminal investigators,” Kavanaugh stated.
He went on to say that FDA drug reviewers, whose job it is to assess drug safety prior to approval, are told not to question drug companies, and essentially rubber-stamp the approvals. And he recalled one instance where the representative of one Pharma company actually said they had paid for the approval!
Another shocker: Kavanaugh pointed to the tainted approval of the drug Pyridostigmine, an anti-nerve-gas drug administered to US troops who might be subject to nerve agent attacks from middle Eastern insurgents. The drug actually increases lethality of certain nerve agents which are more likely to be in the possession of the insurgents, but this rather salient fact was withheld deliberately from those charged with approving it! Is this how the FDA supports the troops?
In an article for the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association in 2000, Dr. Barbara Starfield showed that 106,000 Americans die, each and every year, from properly-prescribed and administered pharmaceutical products[ii]. That article should have set off a firestorm of monstrous proportions; instead, 1.2 million Americans have died needlessly in the intervening 12 years, while their families mostly believe that the health care system did everything possible to save their lives.
But did it? Or did it serve the financial interests of drug companies first, and sick people second?
Clearly the import of such revelations is dire, to every man, woman and child in the USA today. It is already estimated, in a recent Annals of Family Medicine study, that by the year 2035, medical care will cost every American family more than 100% of its income, if current trends continue[iii].
It’s one thing to struggle to pay for medicine to save our lives; quite another to struggle for medicines that might kill us.
Then we must consider the fact that this is not simple corruption of a few individuals, whose dismissal would set the whole thing aright: this is criminal racketeering of the highest order, reaching far up into the executive offices of the FDA and beyond. And since the USA spends more on its health care system than any other nation in the world, we can see that the amount of money being funneled into various pockets is scarcely imaginable in its sheer volume.
And what do Americans receive, in exchange for the vast reservoir of tax dollars allocated to this agency every year? A system that ranks near the bottom of First World Nations in health care models, and kills more than a million of them every decade.
Canadians, smug in their reputation of having one of the best health care systems in the world today, are no less the victim of corruption in Health Canada, the FDA’s counterpart in their country. According to Dr. Shiv Chopra[iv], Canada’s health “protectorate” has long been infected with the same sort of disease, and he lays it all bare in his 2008 book, “Corrupt to the Core: Memoirs of a Health Canada Whistleblower”.
In this gripping work, Dr. Chopra lays out all the proofs of corruption he accumulated in his many years of service: the documents, the meeting notes, the emails, and more. He tells of one meeting where a drug rep bluntly demanded immediate approval of a drug which was failing all safety criteria: “Look, do you want it or not? The FDA has already approved it….” Chopra says that when it comes to dirty dealing, Health Canada is merely an extension of the FDA and reveals that the tactics on both sides of the border are identical: only the agency names change, to convince people that there is some sovereignty being exercised.
“The whole thing is truly corrupt to the core,” he says, “and everywhere you look, it’s the same thing.”
As Dr. Chopra points out, the media, the educational institutions, the medical authorities, all have been manipulated financially since the beginning of the 20th century. In essence, there is not a single element regulated by health authorities that is not controlled, one way or another, from outside the government: our air is polluted with chemicals and Chemtrails; our water is polluted with fluoride and chlorine; our foods are polluted with pesticides and genetically-modified organisms; our infants are being shot full of things like aluminum, aborted human fetal cells, and random foreign proteins, causing untold damage; our soils are depleted; and our weather is geo-engineered. Worse, even our court system is predisposed to taking the side of the “experts”, who are all in it together.
And every bit of it is about money. Profit. Greed.
So why is this information not being shouted from rooftops and broadcast over every airwave and in every newspaper? Aren’t enough of us dropping like flies?
Health freedom activists in both countries know the answer to that one: people just don’t know. Manipulation of information, propagandized and put into mind-numbing memes eagerly lapped up by people whose education has taught them to go along to get along, has been used for millennia as a weapon of control and conquering. Without knowing the truth, no-one is capable of a proper assessment of anything. That would include, unfortunately, our democratic process: have you watched an election ad lately?
Those who put their lives and livelihoods on the line to blow the whistle on agents of harm and destruction need to be protected and venerated by the public for the heroes they are. As Dr. Shiv Chopra puts it, such individuals are leaping onto the back of a tiger, for all of us. If we let that kind of integrity die, we are well and truly lost.
