On Tuesday it was announced that New York City will begin developing Micro apartments.
Could apartments in New York City get any smaller? Mayor Michael Bloomberg hopes so.
On Monday he announced a competition for architects to submit designs for apartments measuring just 275 to 300 square feet (25.5 to 28 square meters) to address the shortage of homes suitable and affordable for the city’s growing population of one- and two-person households.
“People from all over the world want to live in New York City, and we must develop a new, scalable housing model that is safe, affordable and innovative to meet their needs,” the mayor said in a statement announcing the “adAPT NYC” competition.

This may be new to New York City, But not here in Canada!
In December of 2011, developers unveiled 30 micro lofts in downtown Vancouver. Both the developers and the city of Vancouver called the program “part of the homelessness strategy”. No, this is not about helping the homeless and low income people in our society. This is about control. These micro apartments are about condensing everything down so that we can all live “comfortably” in the planned mega cities. (as seen below.
It is only a matter of time before these plans and developments come to you city, regardless of what country you are in! (Germany has a very advanced micro apartment program in place as well).
