It is almost common knowledge that pesticides are harmful to human health and most pesticide’s are persistent organic pollutants that poison the environment.
According to Environment Canada the province of Prince Edward Island is the most intensively sprayed province in the country where thousands of people inhale cancer-causing agricultural pesticides with every breath.

The main crop grown in PEI is potatoes. The problem with potatoes is their susceptibility to potato blight, which is type of microscopic spore or fungus, when they’re grown in industrial monocultures. These spores can float in the air and can land on leaf surfaces of other crops and plants if the weather conditions are warm and humid as they are on a regular PEI summer. The spores can kill the plants it comes into contact with.

Farmers are using pesticides which are actually fungicides and represent 80% of PEI agricultural pesticide use.  The three fungicides that they use are
- mancozeb
-  chlorothalonil
-  and metiram

In the U.S these have been classed as carcinogens by various agencies, including the State of California on its list of “Chemicals Known to the State to Cause Cancer or Reproductive Toxicity”.

Fields are sprayed more than 20 times in the summer.  Environment Canada tested the air and found it was laced with pesticides, even in their control area . Chlorothalonil, especially, was found everywhere and in very high concentrations.

These chemicals can make it’s way into homes in the form of dust and also into the groundwater for drinking water.  PEI is 100% dependent on groundwater for drinking, their daily consumption of water can continue to accumulate these carcinogens. Even if the use of chemical fertilizer ended today, it would take decades for the water to clear up

Pretty much all PEI groundwater is contaminated with nitrate, mostly from chemical fertilizer applied to potato fields.

It’s been a serious problem for decades but government refuses to do anything about it.

The people in PEI are worried about the amount of pesticide that might be on their food and in rural regions of PEI, they breathe the poison right off the sprayers.
Successive PEI governments are allowing the contamination of   air, water, soil, and food with cancer-causing chemicals. They brag about building new cancer treatment facilities.

If this isn’t eugenics and depopulation, then I don’t know what is!  The State of California says it themselves that those chemicals Cause Cancer or Reproductive Toxicity.  This is a HUGE problem, and residents in P.E.I really need to look more into this and find alternatives solutions to the potato blight.

For instance there is a far more natural and sustainable method to successfully treat blight by using the horsetail plant.

Here is a recipe to use:
1. In a large glass or stainless steel pot, mix 1/8 cup of dried horsetail leaves in 4 1/2 litres of unchlorinated water

2. Bring to a boil, and simmer for 1/2 hr.

3. Cool, strain, bottle and label. The infusion will keep for a month which is long enough for you to keep reapplying to your crop. Any left overs can be used as a wonderful hair rinse.

4. To use, dilute the 1 part horsetail concentrate to 5-10 parts unchlorinated water. Spray infected plants once every week or two in dry weather or daily if it is raining.

Health Canada is diminishing natural health products and the government corporations of Canada seem to support the pharmaceutical industry and the pesticide industry.  People have to wake up to natural health products which mother nature provides for us, that includes natural pesticides or herbicides and start applying it at a mass scale before we kill each other and the planet.
