Nasal Flu Vaccine With Live Virus Now To Be Pushed On Canadian Children

A nasal flu vaccine is being suggested as an effective alternative to the needle form of the vaccine.

Experts believe the spray vaccine can be a pain-free alternative for kids that allows them to avoid the pain and stress of an injection.

FluMist is one option which has been found highly effective for those ages two to seventeen. Some studies even report it could be more effective than the shot, although it does inject a live rather than dead virus into the body.

Some physicians and medical workers have protested the change however, saying it can be more difficult to administer the vaccine successfully.

Currently the nasal version of the vaccine isn’t completely covered under provincial health care plans, costing about $25 out-of-pocket.
