Will George W Bush Be Arrested In British Columbia?

The Surrey RCMP has a “robust” security plan in place to deal with controversial former U.S. president George W. Bush’s speaking engagement Thursday at Surrey’s annual Regional Economic Summit in Guildford.

Bush, former U.S. president Bill Clinton and other keynote speakers will be at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel, speaking to about 500 people who’ve paid $599 a piece.

Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts will chair the event. B.C. Premier Christy Clark will also attend.

According to the City of Surrey’s website, the two former U.S. presidents will be sharing their “invaluable perspectives on the new realities facing North America and the world’s major economies.”

With George Bush set to enter Canada, many organizations and people are calling for him to be arrested for war crimes. Groups like Amnesty International Which have stated:

“It is incumbent upon Canadian officials to investigate, arrest and prosecute former president Bush for torture when he arrives in Canada a week tomorrow,” said Alex Neve, Amnesty Canada’s secretary general.”

This sentiment echo’s through many human rights groups and to Canadian activists like Splitting The Sky, who was arrested in 2009 for trying to arrest George Bush while he visited Calgary Alberta.

Splitting The Sky has also given notice that he will be there on Thursday to make another attempt to do so, if the RCMP and local police will not enforce the law. He will also not be alone this time around!

George W Bush is an admitted war criminal. He admitted to ordering torture, this is not in question. The only question is, if the RCMP and Canadian government will uphold not only the law of our land, but international law as well.

With the Canadian government and the RCMP’s track records I will not be holding my breath to see Bush arrested. But I do remain hopeful as always. A criminal is a criminal, no matter what his title or job is!
