Health Canada Ignores Their Own Expert Panel

This really does solidify my renaming of Health Canada to Death Canada.

Almost two weeks ago we posted about Death Canada mulling about what to do with energy drinks. For the last year they have had the designation of a natural health product. But their own expert panel recommended that they remove that and drinks such as Red Bull, Rockstar and Monster should be renamed “stimulant-drug containing drinks” and only be sold under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

Death Canada has decided to ignore their own experts and instead of rebranding the drinks. They are lowering the amounts of caffeine in each drink!

Compromise on caffeine

“Beverage-makers aren’t happy, but parents can raise a modest toast — Health Canada is making it harder to swallow mega-jolts of caffeine from energy drinks. Federal officials plan to cap caffeine levels in these products, which are extremely popular with the young, at 180 milligrams per drink. That’s about the same amount as in a medium cup of coffee. And it seems a reasonable compromise.

It doesn’t please backers of a Health Canada expert panel, which last year called for limiting caffeine levels in energy drinks to just 80 milligrams, restricting these products to pharmacies, and prohibiting young people from buying them. But the reform is also attracting criticism from beverage-makers who accuse Ottawa of a double standard because it doesn’t regulate coffee and tea in the same way.”

Oh yes parents we can raise a modest toast alright! While our children’s ability to access natural herbs and foods are destroyed, We can rest well knowing that our children will still have access to energy drinks. But they will not have more than 180 miligrams of caffeine in them ( even though the medical experts suggest: they should be renamed “stimulant-drug containing drinks” and only be sold under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.)

WOW aren’t you so thankful that Death Canada is looking out for us!
